Content Filtering:
Why do we need to?...
..and is it Effective?

Content filtering has become a big issue especially in public schools. With the proliferation of adult oriented sites on the web, our children should be protected in some way.

Nobody disagrees that pornographic sites should be blocked, but how should this happen, and who sets the standards? Is it the same as censoring books from school libraries. Should certain words be blocked? certain phrases? sites that advocate insurrection, hacking, religion, anti religion, pro choice, abortion, violence, violent computer games? Who draws the line.... and how?

There are many companies that market content filtering software, is it effective? how many valuable sites do they block? do they really block the objectionable sites? Lets take a look at both sides of this controversial issue.
